 What are Naked Oats?

Naked Oats differ from traditional oats in that they do not have a fibrous outer husk - hence the name 'Naked'. The absence of the husk means that the energy is not diluted by fibre.

Naked Oats are therefore a much more concentrated energy source than traditional oats. Energy Dense: Supply some 'Turbo' with  Naked Oats (15 MJ/kg of digestible energy); 30% more energy per kilogram than traditional oats! In practice this means that energy intake can be increased without greatly increasing the meal size. Muscle glycogen, which is the storage form of glucose, is an important fuel for competition horses and all racehorses.  Naked Oats provide readily digestible carbohydrate in the form of starch, for replenishing glycogen stores following work days and racing. Naked Oats are 75% higher in natural oils compared with traditional oats. Oil provides almost 2.5 times as much energy as carbohydrate, on a weight for weight basis. This helps to make  Naked Oats more energy dense than most other feeds designed for competition or racing. Research suggests that an increase in the oil content of a horse's diet improves its ability to utilise oil as a fuel source during lighter days of work. This ensures that precious muscle glycogen stores are spared for maximal effort during hard work, such as competition or racing.
