Sea buckthorn is a super fruit full of all the Omega’s – 3, 6, 9 and the rare 7, as well as a host of other healing nutrients. From its protein building amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, K, C, A, E, and folic acid, over 60 antioxidants, at least 20 minerals, and healthy fatty acids. The fruit is full of carotenoids, xanthophylls, phenolics, and flavonoids, too. It’s an absolute powerhouse of nutrients!

Moringa is an excellent source of protein, vitamin A, potassium, calcium and vitamin C.

Moringa comes packed with over 90 protective compounds, including isothiocyanates, flavonoids and phenolic acids. Moringa has gained a reputation for fighting inflammation and combating various effects of malnutrition, earning the nickname “the miracle plant.”

Just how strong is Moringa, gram for gram Moringa contains:

Four times the amount of vitamin A as carrots

Three times the amount of potassium as bananas

Four times the amount of calcium as cows’ milk

Seven times the amount of vitamin C as oranges

Aloe vera is packed with vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12 and folic acid. It’s also rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, selenium and potassium. It is also packed with enzymes, lignins and 20 different amino acids.

Tart cherries are loaded with important nutrients, including phytochemicals (disease-fighting plant compounds), antioxidants and vitamin C. This tiny red fruit is beneficial for reducing inflammation, enhances heart health and provides other health benefits too.

There are more than 50 studies supporting the potential health benefits of tart cherries -from inflammation to exercise recovery. Tart Cherries contain anthocyanins, these flavonoid compounds are behind the potential health-promoting properties, like reducing muscle soreness after exercise, easing arthritis pain and enhancing heart health.

Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties (which have been highly valued by sufferers of arthritis and gout), tart cherry is now relied on for easing muscle soreness after exercise.

Why? The pain associated with exercise involves muscle damage, inflammation and oxidative stress. Tart cherries seem to help with all three due to the concentrated amounts of anthocyanins inside. Studies suggest tart cherry has the ability to reduce muscle pain and weakness after bouts of intense strength training, as well as after long-distance exercise.

Antioxidant-Rich Fruit

Tart cherries are rich in anthocyanins, which encourage healthy circulation and ensure proper nerve function.

Tart cherries offer a healthy dose of the antioxidant vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential for a strong immune system and plays a role in collagen synthesis, as well as wound healing.

Turmeric is a popular spice used to give support to joints, skin, digestion and the liver.

The active ingredient in turmeric is called curcumin and it is this specific phytochemical that is known for its effectiveness in treating a variety of conditions.

Anti-Inflammatory

Turmeric is probably best known for its use as an anti-inflammatory. It works by significantly reducing the inflammatory pathways in the body, but unlike bute and most other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories often given to horses, turmeric works as a COX-2 inhibitor (as opposed to COX-1) and does not damage the lining of the stomach.

Chronic inflammation is a recognized component of many different diseases including arthritis.

Liver Detoxifier

Another common use for turmeric is for detoxifying the liver. curcumin has long been connected to liver health. Numerous studies have linked it to effectively combating liver cancer and improving liver fibroids. What’s more, turmeric can uniquely assist the enzymes that are responsible for flushing out known dietary carcinogens. The result is enhanced protection against liver damage, and even regeneration of affected liver cells.

Antioxidant

Not only is curcumin a potent antioxidant itself, but it also helps to boost the body’s own antioxidant mechanisms, making it doubly helpful in this regard.

Flax seed is high in omega-3 fatty acids and enhances overall health in horses. The only natural, unsupplemented source of omega-3's in the equine diet is fresh grass.

It can help reduce inflammation, which can relieve symptoms associated with sweet itch and other skin conditions. It can also alleviate symptoms of allergies.

Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it also helps in cases of arthritis or joint stiffness.

It also boosts the immune system and can help regulate thyroid function, making it an ideal supplement for metabolic horses as well as ageing horses.
